I have had a few random experiences this week that remind me how blessed I am, and how I need to thank the Lord by serving others. This week has been crazy with work, and I have been a little prone to complaining about how busy and stressful it has been. The lead teller at my work has been working in banking for years, and with this recent conversion has inherited a LOT more responsibility. She has had tons more to learn than I had to learn. She works all day at the bank, and as soon as we are finished around 5:15-5:30pm, she goes to work at Walmart until at least 10:30pm. Her husband drives a coca-cola delivery truck. She is in her 50's. I was humbled as I watched her take on these new tasks, and tried as much as I could to help her. She is amazing, and I hope someday she won't have to work so much.
The other experience happened when I had gone straight from working all day to go visiting teaching. My companion and I needed to visit two sisters. One is a new convert, and was very sad that one of the missionaries was being transferred. I wanted to go on these visits, but was tired from the day's stress. Once there, I was humbled again. This sister lives alone, and has been struggling with several things in her life, including an injury. Then, on my way home, I stopped to get gas. A woman approached me as I was filling up my car and asked me if I had a couple dollars for gas as she did not have enough to get home. She looked very rough, and I didn't have any change so I told her I was sorry, I didn't . She looked very sad, and walked back to her car and got in. It was a beat-up old thing, missing bumpers and the paint was peeling off. After filling up, I got in the car and silently asked Heavenly Father if I should help her, and if it was safe. I felt that I should. I walked over to her car, and asked if I could fill up a few gallons of gas to get her home. She nearly started crying and said "Thank you! Thank you! I can't believe you are doing this for me. Bless you! You are blessing me." I pulled out my card and put 10 bucks worth of gas in her car. She went on her way.
As busy as life can be, I have been reminded this week of the importance of noticing others around us. So many people have needs, and the Lord will help us fulfill them.
Thanks for posting this, it is inspiring. :)
