On October 29, he turned a quarter of a century. Yeah, I made him feel old when I said it like that. We had a great dinner at a pizza place called Zucca's and then went home for candles, cake and ice cream, presents, and watched a movie.
Later on we celebrated with Chad and Hillery and their kids.
We were able to visit the Georgia Aquarium this past weekend. We had bought tickets on groupon so we got a discount on the general admission as well as a quick behind the scenes tour.
COOLEST AQUARIUM EVER!
We saw all kinds of things. They had a river exhibit that had crocodiles, fish found in Lake Malawi in Africa (this lake contains about 300 species that are not found anywhere else in the world), fish from the Amazon river, and Asian river otters. This exhibit also had piranhas.
There was a tropical exhibit that had jelly fish, Nemo and friends, and these little sea worms that looked like Slimy the worm from Sesame Street. Very cool.
Next up we had the coldwater exhibit. This had big beluga whales, california sea otters, harbor seals, and lots of penguins! they had a crawl space under the penguins area where you could also stick your head up to be really close to the penguins.
We found the touch pool area. Not only were there anemones and crabs, but they had a whole pool of sting rays and little sharks that you could touch. The sting rays were SO soft. They felt like velvet. Definitely a highlight of the day.
Best of all, the HUGE tank with all the sharks, whales, sting rays, and all kinds of fish. It honestly felt like we were in the middle of the ocean. The tank was so big, it looked like a giant movie screen. There was also a tunnel to walk through.
We were able to go "behind the scenes" and see the top of the tank and how they feed the giant Whale Sharks.
After the aquarium, we walked across the street to Centennial Olympic Park. They have a water fountain show shaped like the olympic rings so we stayed and watched for a few minutes.
It was fun to finally go to this park. It is surrounded by the World of Coca-cola, aquarium, CNN center, and tons of tall buildings.
